Don't miss the next issue.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT CUSTOMIZED FOR YOUR PRACTICE AREAS

Many law firms handle matters in different practice areas that have different informational needs. For example, litigation matters always involve opposing counsel whereas estate planning matters require keeping track of beneficiaries. Ideally, your practice management system should adapt depending on the context.

MyCase … in One Sentence

MyCase is a cloud practice management system that recently launched MyCase Custom Fields by Practice Area, which offers case-level custom fields by practice area.

The Killer Feature

When you create a custom field, you can assign it to just one or multiple practice areas. These fields then display only in matters within the designated practice areas. This eliminates unnecessary blank fields from your matters. As you create more custom fields, you can reorganize them via drag and drop.

"MyCase Custom Fields by Practice Area came to fruition thanks to our customers," MyCase Executive Vice President Jason Randall tells us. "Customer feedback since its release has been great. This is another example of how active a role our customers play in making MyCase the best it can be."

Other Notable Features

MyCase's document assembly technology can take advantage of custom fields to expedite document creation and minimize errors. For example, you can upload a template, and then click a button to have all custom and other fields associated with a matter merge into the document.

Clients can contribute to document creation by filling out forms that MyCase saves to their matter. Also, MyCase's cloud word processor supports multiple users so clients and colleagues alike can collaborate with you.

Speaking of clients and collaboration, MyCase was among the first practice management applications to offer a secure client portal. Features include document sharing, an activity stream in which you can discuss a document or the matter, direct messaging with realtime notifications, and online bill payment. Optionally, MyCase can design and host your entire website through its MyCase Websites service for even tighter integration with the client portal.

MyCase offers the full panoply of core practice management features such as calendars, contacts, tasks, reminders, time entries, billing, financial and other reports. Other features include document management, case workflows to ensure that you don't miss any steps, task templates for complex recurring tasks, and QuickBooks integration.

What Else Should You Know?

MyCase works in desktop and mobile web browsers. You can also use it via the free Android and iOS apps. MyCase costs $39 per attorney per month and $29 per non-attorney user per month. The subscription fee includes all features, including MyCase Custom Fields by Practice Area, as well as unlimited data storage, unlimited client accounts, training, and technical support.
